SX-64 Keyboard Membrane / Mylar
SX-64 Keyboard Membrane / Mylar
This is a replacement Commodore SX-64 Keyboard Membrane (or Mylar) - manufactured to a high quality using the latest techniques and should outlast the original membranes.
Keyboard membrane failure is the most common problem with a Commodore SX-64 (SX64) "luggable" computer (also known as the Executive 64, or VIP-64)
If some of the keys on your Commodore SX-64 computer no longer work, then it is bound to mean that you need a new keyboard membrane.
These new keyboard membranes were manufactured in 2019 and are UV light resistant. They come complete with a small strip of neoprene for underneath the securing bar to ensure a good contact between the membrane and the keyboard pins. This replaces the old foil strip used on the original membrane.
Note: The old membrane used a small "foil" strip to ensure a connection between the membrane and the connection pads on the PCB. This can sometimes be stuck to the PCB and needs to be removed. It is also a good idea to clean all metal traces on the PCB with some Isopropanol and a Q-Tip just to remove any old carbon.
Some users have reported issues with keys apparently pressed constantly.
We now supply a plastic sheet (spacer) to fit between the membrane and the PCB which will help. However, there are numerous reasons why this can happen, even with the original membrane - see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKde5Bj-wy4
